The past three years at FIU has been quite a journey.
I came from a business background with no graphic skills, and have learned an immense amount of knowledge. Not only how to produce graphics, which is the end product when proposing a design, and how to conduct the research and analysis and diagram the findings, but mostly how to dig deep and design not only from a functional and ecological point of view but to create an environment in which we through design can trigger emotions that translates to how we perceive and experience the space.
Designing is a long process. A final design can only be successful if all the elements along the path has been carefully taken into consideration, and when we time and time again has to ask ourselves 'how can the design be better?' A good designer is one who doubt the design into the very end.
When designing in school we don't have a budget. And even though we learn the practical steps, and that a successful studio project has to be realistic, it is more an exploration of ideas, ideas which would be largely restrained which a budget and other real world factors.
I am ready to take the next leap into the professional environment which I know, from experience marketing and selling a project or product, will be very different with team work, budget retrains, permitting, politics and other realities.
In spite of that l am in my environment, on the design and production side, and as part of a team, I hope to have a profound impact on how we perceive and experience outdoor space, while caring for the environment.
